Two days of streets, stories and Mississippi River views, with room to linger.
Begin with the city
Use your first day to find your bearings downtown. Look at the street pattern, leave time for a museum or historic site and finish with a river view if the weather suits. This is an editorial outline, not a timed tour: opening arrangements should determine the order of the stops you most want to see.
Give history some space
On the second day, make Melrose or the Grand Village your main outing. They tell different stories and are separate destinations. A mansion tour is only one part of Melrose; its outbuildings and interpretation of enslaved life deserve time too. At the Grand Village, begin with the museum context before exploring the landscape.
Plan one meal, leave another open
A dinner reservation can be a useful anchor. Keep lunch flexible enough to fit a tour or a slower morning. Check the actual kitchen hours and allow for transport from an outlying site. Our food guide gives a simple way to choose between a downtown table and a riverfront stop.
Save the Trace for the right day
